Steeping eJuice simply put, means to let your eJuice sit and blend together for a better flavour.
Most eJuices have been pre-steeped before you buy it. However if you are buying a doubler and adding your own nicotine and PG/VG to it then it will be best to let it steep for a few days before delving in.
Why is steeping eJuice important?
Just like making a cake, if you don’t mix all the ingredients together properly then it won’t taste the best that it can. It will require a bit of patience but it is so worth it at the end. If you are making your own eJuice then I suggest not letting your favourite flavours run too low before making the next batch. There’s nothing worse than having a bottle in the cupboard that has started steeping but just isn’t ready yet.
How to Steep eJuice
There are many methods for steeping eJuice. the easiest and most common is to pop your eJuice into a dark, cool cupboard and let it sit for a week or two, depending on the flavours involved. Fruit flavours tend to steep pretty quickly, where as custards and tobacco’s will take longer to reach their flavour peak, sometimes 3 to 4 weeks.
Some DIY’ers like to speed up the process, I have no patients when i’m creating new flavours, so i like to warm them up to get the process happening a bit quicker.
Bath – by filling a bowl, sink or tub with warm water you can put your fresh eJuice into a sealed bag and let it sit in the warm water until the water turns cold. It certainly speeds up the process, however it will most likely need to steep longer in the cupboard to reach maturity.
Slow Cooker – a reliable source of warm water for lengthy periods of time. again put your bottles in a sealed bag and submerge them for a couple hours, remember to shake them up from time to time to assist the blending process.
Ultrasonic cleaner – add warm water and let the power of ultrasonic waves send vibrations through your eJuice, allowing the molecules to mix together quickly.
Magnetic stirrer – if you are lucky enough to have one of these its an easy peasy process. Transfer your fresh eJuice into a large container (preferably glass) and let it do all the work for you.
Seed Steeping – if you have some of your favourite eJuice left and have a new batch that needs steeping you can add the already mature eJuice to the new batch (the same flavour, obviously) and this will speed up the process considerably.
Breathing the juice is also a very important step, it is as simple as removing the cap and letting it air for a few hours. It isn’t recommended that you breath your juice any longer than 12 hours as the flavour will evaporate over time and you’ll be left with a juice without flavour.
Changing colours of steeping eJuice
Some eJuice flavours will change colours as they steep, especially if they have nicotine in them. below is a guide of what may happen as the juice matures.
